Introduction to Artificial Intelligence or AI


In this section, I will explain you why we should consider AI is most valuable subject to study in current era.Before, we jump to the Artificial Intelligence, lets understand the Intelligence first. As you know we are all Homo sapience and our intelligence makes us different from all other species so it is important to us. We have spent thousands of years to perceive, understand, judge,and  manipulate many things in the world. The knowledge we have build over the period and apply that knowledge to solve particular problem considered as intelligence. Whereas, Artificial Intelligence is an attempt to build new objects which have same characteristics as humans have to solve a particular problem more efficiently.

History of Artificial Intelligence or AI



 As per professor Peter Jackson, Artificial Intelligence has been classified in three period-

1. Classical Period (1950-1960)- The work on AI started after world war two and the name "Artificial Intelligence" coined in 1956. In this period, mostly work carried out on Intelligent search problem, Theorem proving and Game Playing. The concept of state space was originated in this period. We will discuss and learn in detail about the Theorem proving, Game Playing and state space.

2. Romantic Period (1960-1970)- In this period, researchers more interested in Knowledge Representation and Natural Language Processing (NLP)to make machines intelligent. We will We will discuss and learn in detail about the Knowledge Representation and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

3. Modern Period (1970-Present)- In this period, researchers started work on Expert System which can solve more complex problem then ever. in this addition Stanford university developed the expert system named as "MYCIN" that could diagnose and prescribe medicines for  bacterial infections. We will We will discuss and learn in detail about the Expert System.
